Meet our mediators- Claire Colbert

Meet the team at Family Mediation and Mentoring- first up....Claire Colbert, accredited mediator and co-founder of FM&M

Claire Colbert is an accredited mediator and co-founder of Family Mediation and Mentoring. Claire is a Child Inclusive Mediator and is Hybrid mediation trained.

·     Why did you become a mediator?

I had worked as a family lawyer for a long time when I trained as a mediator.  I could see there was a better way for people to resolve issues on divorce and separation and wanted that to be a bigger part of how I worked.  I have seen the long term consequences on families when divorce is done “badly” and was keen to be part of a process that would help families move forward, rather than hinder them.

·     What do you enjoy about your job?

Being able to meet with children in the mediation process is such a rewarding part of my job, giving children a voice and helping parents find child focused solutions.  Facilitating discussions that enable clients to find resolution on financial issues or child arrangements is empowering for clients and great job satisfaction for me as a mediator.

·     What is your top tip for someone getting divorced?

Be kind- to yourself, your former spouse and your children. Ask how you would like them to describe how you acted if they were asked in 5 years time.

·     What do you do when you are not mediating?

I have teenage children, so life is busy, but when there is downtime you will find me trying to improve PB running times, out on a paddleboard or curled up with a good film or book.
