Stepping out of the courtroom and into the coffee room - Complex Finances

Can mediation be used if you have complex financial arrangements?

Having complicated financial arrangements or significant wealth isn’t a bar to mediating.  We are often asked questions such as-

Q: Won’t mediation still rack up huge fees with experts involved?
A: It’s typically far cheaper and faster than litigation, as you’re paying one mediator plus shared experts instead of duelling lawyers for months. High-net-worth couples often save six figures by settling privately.

Q: How many sessions to sort complex finances?
A: Usually 4–6 focused sessions over weeks,  covering disclosure, valuations and options, is much quicker than court timelines that can drag into years. You control the pace.

Q: Can we get a binding agreement through mediation?
A: Your mediated financial settlement can become a consent order drafted after mediation by a solicitor. This, if signed by you both and approved by a judge can then become a legally enforceable court order. This would be the same as the enforceability of a court ruling but on your terms. Lawyers prepare and review the draft court order so that you are both completely legally protected.
