Book Review- The Parenting Puzzle by Candida Hunt

The Parenting Puzzle- tips, ideas and solutions for parenting issues

The Parenting Puzzle has been written as a guide for parents to help them think about how they parent and, what they do, how they feel about it and why.

The book looks at self-awareness and self-esteem, appropriate expectations, empathy and positive discipline giving practical exercises, examples and suggestions throughout the chapters along with areas for noting thoughts and reflections

Included in the guide are chapters on discipline, family rules, personal power and choices and consequences, all issues which can lead to family conflict and turmoil. There are also sections on feelings and what to do with them, communicating clearly and the benefit of “I” statements.

Within the book there is some guidance on ages and stages in children’s development and tips for helping children to grow up and cope with stress, problem-solving negotiating, and behaviour to ignore as well a show to deal with issues around sex and helping children stay safe as well as a chapter on the family journey and future hazards along the way.

This is an easy to read book that deals with real parents concerns, the needs of parents and the needs of children.  Whether you are a parent or carer or you provide support families this book is a fantastic way of encouraging parents to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. A must read!
