The support many family lawyers never get

Time and time again I hear from family lawyers that their big worry is about burnout, even though they love their job.

Many brilliant lawyers feel left to navigate trauma and conflict heavy cases with little day to day support and then there is the relentless admin!

Mentoring in law has always existed but often it is only available in larger firms, yet we know that good mentoring boosts confidence, improves retention and gives people a safe space to talk about the emotional impact of this work whilst fostering innovation, leadership and self-awareness.

Mentoring provides a confidential environment within which to discuss your everyday working environment, client and opponent management, professional business responsibilities, career direction, and practical strategies to protect wellbeing while doing high-conflict work.

I understand what being a family lawyer feels like. Before specialising as a family mediator, I was a specialist family lawyer for almost 30 years. I progressed through my career to become an equity partner and was part of the team that negotiated a merger of my regional firm with a national law firm to become national head of the family team. I am also a Deputy District Judge.

If you would like to know a bit more about mentoring, email me at rachael@familymandm.co.uk and we can arrange a time talk that suits you.
